An immigration judge orders the deportation of a Norcross mom

On May 18, an Atlanta Immigration and Customs Enforcement judge ordered that Honduran mother of six be deported to her home country. He has given her until November to get her affairs in order and to leave the United States.

While that day she headed to her appointment, the Norcross woman walked into court thinking of her appointment as no different from any other she'd attended in the past, her attorney felt differently. He said that he fully expected her to be placed under arrest and deported right away.

He notes that his client had been successful in keeping her deportation off the table for the better part of the past year because one of her children had received a cancer diagnosis. Her case for protection against deportation was delayed during that time frame on humanitarian grounds. Now that her son's doing better though, he knew that she wouldn't be able to fight off the deportation though.

If the woman is forced to leave in November, it won't be her first time having to do so. She was originally deported in 2007 when her six children were much younger. Back then, she had to leave them all behind here in the United States. Since coming back here, she's gotten a job working painting houses alongside her husband. She also is active in her church.

She notes that she doesn't receive government assistance to take care of her kids, but instead works hard to do so herself.

As for what led to her most recently being threatened with deportation, she says that she was stopped in 2017 for driving without a license. That stop led to her being jailed for 17 days. It also landed her back on the radar of immigration officials.

If you've been threatened with deportation, then a Norcross criminal defense attorney can provide guidance in your immigration case.
