Advocates call for an end to H-4 visa work restrictions

Georgia residents may be aware of the H-1B visa program that allows American companies to hire individuals from overseas when workers with the required skills cannot be found in the United States. However, they may not be aware of the controversy surrounding the immigration status of the spouses of those granted an H-1B visa.

Applying for a green card through a job offer

Foreigners who are offered a job in Georgia or any other state may be able to qualify for permanent residency in the United States. The process of obtaining a green card will begin with the employer filing Form I-140, or Petition for Alien Worker. If the immigrant qualifies to self-petition for the green card, the employer may not be required to file the petition for the prospective employee.

How can a spouse of a U.S. citizen become naturalized?

Spouses of United States citizens living in Georgia or any other state may also apply to become citizens themselves. Individuals must also have resided in the jurisdiction for three months prior to filing the application for naturalization. Spouses of United States citizens working overseas who have been overseas for at least one year may be eligible for naturalization.
