Tires sold as new might really be old
According to the ABC News report linked below, tires have a shelf life of no more than six years. A code on the tire (often only accessible from the side of the tire facing in towards your vehicle) indicates how old your tires are. The first two numbers indicate the week of the year during which the tire was manufactured. The second one or two numbers indicates the year during which the tire was manufactured. A one digit number corresponds to the years 1990-1999 (0-9) and a two digit number corresponds to the years 2000-2008.
