Inadmissibility and the I-601 form

To be considered green card eligible immigrants must meet certain criteria. According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services one of the criteria is for immigrants to be 'admissible' to the United States. While this requirement may seem fairly vague looking into it further can help individuals seeking permanent residency understand what it takes to be considered admissible.

What kinds of rights come with permanent residency?

Every year, thousands upon thousands of immigrants come to the country looking for an opportunity to make a better life for themselves and their families. Many are fleeing oppressive regimes. Others find the economic situations in their own countries untenable. Whatever the reason, the United States is a place where opportunity abounds and immigrants can find work and housing to make a good life for themselves. Of course, without U.S. Permanent Residency, it can be much harder to get regular employment, get car loans and find adequate housing.

Can I get a green card?

Getting a green card in the United States is the dream of many immigrants because it grants permanent residence status and all the benefits and responsibilities that go along with being a resident. This includes finding legal work, starting a business, getting a driver's license and buying a house. But the U.S. government doesn't grant this permanent residency status to just anyone and has a set number of green cards it issues per year.

Permanent residency eligibility

Georgia immigrants may be unaware of what the eligibility requirements for permanent residency are. According to the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services, an individual who is seeking permanent residency in the U.S. must qualify for an immigration category, must have an immigrant petition approved, must have an immigrant visa available and must be considered admissible by the USCIS.

Entry acceptance for Department of State green card lottery

Georgia residents aware of foreigners interested in the U.S. Diversity Visa for 2016 should note that entries will be accepted from Oct. 1 through Nov. 3. The program is open to natives of many countries, allowing a green card to be issued to some selected individuals. However, there are some exceptions, making it important to review changes if one has entered the drawing in previous years. Examples of excluded countries include Mexico, Canada and the Philippines for having significant immigration levels in the U.S. already.
