Georgia woman claims she was wrongfully held for a month

Increased pressure on the part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) may have lead to the unfair treatment of a Georgian woman who was held in detention for a month after being picked up in a nationwide raid. The raid focused on cracking down on immigrants, but its net may have been cast a bit too wide — at least one of the people it caught claims to be a lawful United States citizen.

The woman in question is a resident of Gwinnett County who claims that her father was a naturalized citizen, granting her citizenship as well. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials relented after holding her for a month in a Georgia detention center, and a spokesperson for the agency claims that they are investigating the claim. Unfortunately, these actions come after the woman has possibly had many of her rights violated repeatedly over the last month.

The change in direction for the country's immigration policy has many immigrants throughout the country panicking about the future. Many individuals are scared to even go outside for fear of being swept up in a raid or stopped by officials and deported on questionable grounds. The news for the last few months has been full of reports of individuals like the woman from Gwinette County who have suffered unfairly because of the fresh resolve of ICE and other law enforcement agencies.

If you believe that your rights have been violated, it is crucial to get the best help you can to protect your future. Unfortunately, the state of affairs right now implies that even those who are innocent may be charged unfairly, merely because they resemble the type of person that law enforcement are targeting heavily. Proper legal counsel can help you fight to preserve your rights and the rights of thousands like you.
