U.S. immigration law presents some families with challenges

Undocumented immigrants living and working in the United States often face various legal challenges with regard to their current statuses. Many immigrants in Georgia and beyond have been earning incomes and raising families within the borders of the nation for many years before complications arise. Under current U.S. immigration law, many immigrants fear deportation, which some say keeps many children from receiving the education they deserve.

According to a report from Georgetown University Law Center's Human Rights Institute, the U.S. Department of Education guarantees every child an education. However, many immigrant families worry that if they enroll their children in school, they may face deportation or be met with complicated enrollment paperwork. Apparently, many immigrant children have been turned away from classrooms, even though federal law requires that all children in the United States must attend school through the eighth grade level, or until they reach 16 years of age.

The federal law clearly states that no child is to be denied an education while living in the United States. It says nothing about whether a particular child is documented or undocumented. In fact, the Department of Education's website reportedly states that all children are entitled to an education, regardless of their immigration status.

Any person facing legal challenges regarding U.S. Immigration Law in Georgia may seek guidance by contacting an experienced immigration and naturalization attorney in the area. If one has been threatened with deportation, or is concerned about a child's access to education, there may  options of which they are unaware. Seeking legal guidance in the matter is typically a key factor to obtaining a positive outcome in light of such problems.
