Immigration detention apparently on the rise this year

Many people come to Georgia after fleeing their native home lands for various reasons that often include extreme poverty or violence. While residing in the United States, many live in fear of immigration detention and threats of deportation. This is especially true for those whose status documents are not up to date. Driving to and from work or taking a child to school can become a daily experience wrought with anxiety.

Apparently, there have been more than 33,000 undocumented immigrants from Mexico detained in 2016. The US Border Patrol has stated this as an 11 percent increase from the same time last year. A large number of people held in detention are from Central American regions.

Reportedly, more than 100,000 families have fled their native lands through Mexico, entering the United States across its borders to try to escape violent situations in places like El Salvador and Honduras. To be placed in a detention center after finally arriving in a new land where one has hopes of forming a healthy and successful lifestyle can be quite distressing. Many such families worry that they will be torn apart and wonder where to turn for legal help in such situations.

In Georgia and all other states, an immigration and naturalization attorney would be able to offer guidance to any person facing issues regarding immigration detention. The laws that govern such matters can be complex and confusing, especially if a language barrier exists. It often helps to discuss one's situation with an experienced attorney in order to determine what options might be available to avoid deportation or other legal complications.
