Three tips for getting through the visa interview.

If you are applying for a family-based visa, it can be an intimidating experience. Whether you are asking for a fiancé or marriage visa, the process involves an extensive application process as well as a biometric interview. To add to this exhausting application process, there is the visa interview. This may cause you a lot of stress, as the United States government is essentially asking you to prove that your relationship to your loved one is genuine.

It is possible that you have read a lot of horror stories on the Internet about the interview process. You may have heard many things like you will be aggressively interrogated separately from your loved one and may face criminal charges if your answers don't exactly match up.

Fortunately, these rumors are largely not true. Although the government takes fraud seriously and will aggressively prosecute it, the interviewer is not intentionally trying to trick you. If you truly have a relationship with your loved one, you have little to fear from the interview.

Tips for the interview

Depending on the circumstances, the visa interview generally follows one of two formats. In the first format, the interviewer will question you and your loved one separately and compare each of your answers later. In the other format, you and your loved one may be interviewed together.

Regardless of which format you face, your approach to it is the same; there are three primary tips that you should follow:

· Be honest. When asked a question, do not think about what your loved one is likely to say. Instead, answer it honestly to the best of your knowledge. If you do not know the answer to a question, it is better to admit that you do not know than trying to guess what your loved one might say.

· Be calm. Although the interviewer may ask the same question several different ways, or the questions may seem overly invasive or personal, it is important for you to remain calm and not get frustrated or upset. Remember to answer the questions as honestly and calmly as you can.

· Bring documentation. To help prove that your relationship is real, it is helpful to put together a file with several pictures of you and your loved one over the course of your relationship as well as receipts from events your shared, such as vacations or dinners.

Speak with an attorney

To ensure that the visa application process goes smoothly, it is important to seek the assistance of an immigration law attorney. The experienced attorneys at Taylor, Lee & Associates LLC can assist you in filing the proper paperwork and resolve any legal issues, allowing you to focus on building your life together as a couple.
