The firm opened its office in 2002 in humble quarters in Roswell, Georgia. On the day the firm opened, its partners were sought out by leaders in the immigrant community to assist with a brewing conflict between police officials and day laborers in Roswell. Building on that foundation of service, the firm has constantly been committed to defending and protecting the inalienable rights of immigrants in Georgia.
in 2004, the firm relocated to a different office in Roswell and began to expand its operations throughout Georgia. An office was opened near the end of 2005 in Canton, Georgia. In 2007, the firm consolidated its office into a main headquarters located in Norcross, Georgia.
The firm has been, and continues to be, vocal proponents of the need for comprehensive immigration reform at the federal level. The partners of the firm have testified before state and local governmental bodies and traveled to Washington, DC on a number of occasions to speak with political leaders about the critical need to fix the nation’s broken immigration system. The firm advocates for the need to secure the borders of the United States, provide for a workable guest worker program and implement and fair and humane solution for the undocumented population in the United States that respects the contributions of immigrants to our nation’s prosperity and respects the inherent human dignity of these individuals.
in 2007, HTL was awarded the prestigious Excellence in Legal Award by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) in recognition of the firm’s service to the community.
In 2008, HTL was awarded the Pro Bono Attorney Award by the ACLU of Georgia, as part of their Civil Liberties Awards, in recognition of the firm’s commitment to protecting the civil liberties of immigrants.
The firm has been profiled extensively in the press as a result of its legal cases, community work and commitment to public advocacy for the rights of immigrants.
